Spring 2014 Book Recommendations

It's the start of the new semester and a new growing season for TCG. We are going to be learning a lot this semester through hands on experience in the garden. However, if you are looking to expand your knowledge of environmental issues and, of course, urban gardening, here are three books we recommend:

For tips on what to grow and general information about what it takes to create a garden in an urban setting check out The Essential Urban Farmer by Novella Carpenter and Willow Rosenthal.

To learn about sustainable food systems as well as global food systems try Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do about It by Anne Lappe.

Pest are a hot topic among gardeners, but beware of poisonous pesticides! If you interested in some history and are fascinated by the balance shared between humans and nature go for Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.
