Take some time to peruse the blog because all of the pages have just been updated, and there are some changes for this semester.  Hopefully your first day of classes went well and you're ready for our meetings to start! Prepare yourselves: this post contains A LOT of information and details.

FIRST day at Penrose Playground for the year
TCG is glad to be continuing our after school program at Penrose Community Center at the corner of 12th and Susquehanna.  This program incorporates after school homework help and tutoring with gardening and nutrition lessons.  We visit every Tuesday from 4 to 6 and will be meeting at the belltower, in front of the library at 3:30 for volunteer introductions and a brief overview of volunteer responsibilities and program goals.  This program is a great opportunity to mentor youth in the community as well as get your hands dirty and have some fun!  Email Gabrielle Taube at gabrielle.taube@temple.edu if you would like to get involved!

Thursday, September 6:
Our FIRST general body meeting of the year  in Howard Gittis Student Center Room 223 @ 8pm.  RSVP on facebook HERE

Saturday September 8:
Fundamentals of the Garden Workshop
In this hands-on workshop we will be introducing our new members to our gardens and re-acclimating our returning members with our gardens.  It will be a crash course in all the basics for gardening.  More details will be announced and discussed at our first general body meeting.

What to expect this semester

This semester will feature many exciting activities:
- Garden workshops & lessons
- Growing some hearty vegetables to keep our tummies full and warm in the colder months
- Tending to the Sonia Sanchez flower garden
- Volunteering with our community programs
- Guest Speakers
- Visits to some of the urban farms and gardens in Philadelphia and the surrounding area
- Potluck dinners
- And of course, our semi-annual event: THE FEAST

For the Fall 2012 semester, the majority of our beds will be community beds so that we can all learn more effectively as a group.  We expect to produce a higher yield of crops with this system, but the membership information listed on our membership page is still applicable.  As usual, active members receive a share of the crops.

Much love and we'll see you soon!
